Vorlesungsbeschreibung: This course is designed for advanced graduate students who have already taken courses in networking and in particular in the architecture and protocols used within the Internet, broadband and wireless networks. The project and research activities within the course are defined based on student's interest. The course is motivated by several novel paradigms in networking: (i) convergence of wired and wireless networks towards a seamless, IP-based network infrastructure, and (ii) application-driven, high-performance networking with applications in business, science, health care and cloud computing, and (iii) emergence of embedded and sensor networks as a computing and communication infrastructure, embedded into the natural environment and in communication infrastructure. We will address these paradigms by discussing and analyzing the emerging network architectures such as the Internet Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), GMPLS network control plane as well as and telecommunication management and services. In addition, the course will dedicate time to discuss the security issues as they arise in networking and telecommunications. Inhalte:
· Fundamentals of advanced networks, architecture and protocols · Recent developments in the design (in some cases standardization) of network control plane · Evolution towards the all-IP architectures, Internet Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) · Fundamentals of high-performance networking in the context of E-Science and cloud computing · Telecommunication management and security in telecommunication networks Assignments and Projects:
The projects will be supplemented by the scientific papers and will be used to prepare the class for discussions and an in-class The students are advised to take the classes in "Kommunikationsnetze" and "Internet Lab" before taking this class.
