Lisa's research interests focus on the security, reliability, and performance optimization of networked systems, including protocol design, network and flow optimization, delay analysis, and the application of machine learning for dynamic and complex environments. Her work extends from wired heterogeneous systems to wireless communication, addressing challenges in integrating diverse network components and technologies. She is particularly interested in combining theoretical models and practical challenges - with applications in cyber-physical and autonomous systems such as vehicles, Industry 4.0 and smart grids.
Lisa Maile is a research associate at the Institute of Computer and Network Engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig. She received her Master’s degree in Computer Science with honors from the University of Ulm in 2018. Throughout her academic career, she has been awarded several scholarships, including the Deutschlandstipendium and three travel scholarships.
Lisa completed her doctoral thesis entitled “Reliable Real-Time Communication in Time-Sensitive Networking with Static and Dynamic Network Traffic” at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg with highest honor. Her dissertation included the development of the open-source framework DYRECTsn, which provides model-based automated solutions for cyber-physical systems with dynamic real-time communication. Lisa is also a member of the IEEE Standards Association and initialized the IEEE Std. P802.1CBec.
Lisa has expanded her expertise from Time-Sensitive Networking to include wireless technologies and heterogeneous resource management for dynamic environments. Among other projects, she is working on analytical latency prediction algorithms for 5G combining machine learning with analytical methods to improve verifiability of safety-critical systems.
In addition to her work at FAU and TU Braunschweig, Lisa has held research and teaching positions internationally. She was a visiting researcher at the Universidad de Granada, Spain, in 2021, and she teaches a course on "Safety-critical and Real-time Communication" at VERIMAG, Université Grenoble Alpes, France in 2024. She has also been involved in interdisciplinary projects, including a simulation project on the spread of coronavirus, which gained some media attention in 2020.
